Peripheral arterial disease is a widespread circulatory problem in which narrowed arteries reduce blood flow to your limbs. This can result in a multitude of complications, including amputations, gangrene, and stroke. It is very often not manifested in a way, where the patient would notice any clear symptoms or is masked, making it underdiagnosed and undertreated. All patients above 65 years of age with existing cardiovascular risk factors like diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidemia, or who are smoking, are at risk for developing PAD. The easiest non-invasive procedure is definitely Ankle-Brachial Index (ABI); if followed by additional diagnostics, such as physical examination, Toe-Brachial Index (TBI), monitoring and managing the modifiable risk factors the disease can be treated on time and adverse events can be prevented. Both non-invasive procedures are available as separate MESI mTABLET system modules: - MESI mTABLET ABI: automated wireless Ankle-Brachial Index system with its 3CUFF™ technology allows simultaneous measurement of brachial and ankle pressures. It also incorporates PADsense™ algorithm for the detection of severe Peripheral Arterial Disease. - MESI mTABLET TBI: Toe-Brachial Index measurement is used for detecting PAD in patients, where an Ankle-Brachial Index measurement alone is not sufficient due to non-compressible arteries. It is an indispensable measurement not only for diabetic patients, patients undergoing dialysis, and patients with very advanced age but also for patients with extensive wounds and lymphoedema.
