Genesis® solves several current issues in a simple way that is regulatory compliant. Carbon Neutrality: It is well known that within healthcare air changes are effective but inefficient. Even with exceptional heat recovery, energy is still thrown away due to the use of outside air. The installation of ceiling mounted supply and extract grills works very well for lower flows. Cold air enters, slowly sinks and at an ACH of 1.5-2 times, then gradually warms, rises and is gradually extracted. In health care air is used for infection prevention and mitigation around gas risks. Thus higher flows are used which cause the vector flow to rise. Cold air doesn’t have time to sink and the majority fo the increased flow travels across the ceiling. This is already recognised in OR design where air systems are designed to cascade with air entering high but being extracted at a low level. Low level extract also works well for most anaesthetic gases as these are heavier than air. Thus designing in low extract can improve efficiency of actual air changes through the entire clinical space. For areas where flows exceed 4ACH this means that like OR, the air enters high and is extracted low meaning the entire room receives the ACH, not just the ceiling. Installation of low extract has always been problematic as compared to conventional ceiling extract. It often requires additional trades to ‘box in’ the duct and for refurbishment projects, even when it is specified, often it has been ‘overlooked’ due to cost and site time. In its simplest form Genesis® enables easy installation of low extract in a pre designed encasement. The can be as a corner unit or mid wall, enabling the easy utilisation of low extract for any clinical area. We haven’t just stopped there though!.
